The Top 5 Storylines that weren't story lines when the season started
1. Chip Kelly- The new offensive coordinator of the Oregon Ducks took to the skies the last couple of weeks. It didn't take long for his version of the spread offense to take shape. QB Dennis Dixon has dropped his baseball mit for the pigskin and it is certainly paying off this fall. The Ducks burned Michigan at home and are going to take on USC and Cal in the next couple of weeks. Take a look at the Pac 10 stats and you will see how Kelly has brought a new flying V to the Ducks assault. #1 rushing offense (181.9 yds/game), #1 total offense (422.9 yds/game), and #3 in scoring (29.5 pts/game) has Oregon off to a quick start. The true test does not come until USC comes to town though.
2. Jeff Jagodzinski- The new head ball coach at Boston College has the Eagles thinking ACC title and BCS game. But a little more than a month ago he was right up there with Minnesota HC Tim Brewster as two NFL not so coordinators who landed BCS caliber HC positions. While Brewster is buried with little to no NFL talent, Jagodzinski is draped in NFL potential in QB Matt Ryan. Much Like Charlie Weis, Jagodzinski should run with this type of talent and build up some credibility in the weak ACC. Just last week Coach J and the Eagles tore up John Tenuta's fierce Georgia Tech Defense and Ryan is looking like he could splash NYC for a shot at the Heisman.
3. Sam Bradford and Oklahoma - So much for the Notre Dame QB position battle... The Oklahoma Sooners are off the a 3-0 start and Bob Stoops has Bradford to thank for it. The RS freshman has opened up for 11 TD with only 1 int and looked great picking apart a Miami defense with utter accuracy. Meanwhile the other RS freshman Demarco Murray has take overplaymaker role held by AD the last couple of years. Take that and a good D and solid special teams and Stoops is making another run at the BCS. Up next Red River Shootout....
4. The And 1- Pac 10 commissioner Tom Hansen had to go on the Herd to talk about his displeasure for a playoff saying the Pac 10 loves the Rose Bowl so much that it would never, ever, think about voting for a set system. Well good for him... luckily a season that ends with And 1 would not fully fulfill a season it would do wonders for the sport... but then again who would get in? Therein lies the question
5. The Superstar of College Football is a dying breed. Vince, Reggie, and Lionhart... Where did you go..... Here's hoping Tebow, McFadden and Slaton can keep up..
